Jazz Bands

Jazz Band 1

Jazz Band 1 is the upper level jazz band at Cheney High School. This group is auditioned at the beginning of every school year. This ensemble focuses on advanced jazz band repertoire from Count Basie to Jazz Rock to Latin and everything in-between.

Jazz Band 1 performs at three regularly scheduled concerts throughout the year. They are also often asked to perform at other regional events. Recently Jazz 1 performed at the Superintendents luncheon for ESD 101 in Spokane. Jazz 1, along with Jazz 2 headlines our jazz dinner auction, “An Evening of Golden Notes”, one of our major fundraisers, every March. Both jazz bands also perform at two to three jazz band festivals every year.

Jazz Band 2

Jazz Band 2 is the entry level jazz band at Cheney High School. This group is non auditioned, however instrumentation is somewhat limited and those who audition will have priority to getting into this ensemble. This ensemble focuses on a wide array of repertoire that will help students prepare for their future auditions to get into Jazz 1.

This ensemble also performs at several jazz band festivals and our “An Evening of Golden Notes” Blackhawk Band Parent Booster fundraiser every year. Occasionally, this group also has their own extra performance opportunities around the West Plains.
